Swiss ban construction of minarets
A referendum in Switzerland has banned the construction of minarets with new mosques.
Switzerland’s biggest party, the Swiss People’s Party (SVP), claims the turrets attached to mosques are symbols of militant Islam.
The anti-immigration SVP party believes the spires from where followers of Islam are called to prayer demonstrate a “political-religious claim to power”.
It forced a referendum on whether or not minarets should be banned after collecting 100,000 signatures from eligible voters within 18 months.
Over 57% of Swiss voters chose to approve a blanket ban on the construction of Muslim minarets, according to official results posted by Swiss news agency ATS.
The Swiss are a quite conservative nation and very conscious of their culture, but this is a pretty radical move. The claim is that Islam by it’s nature is an expansionist, militant religion and the minarets are a symbol calling for this. It is a fair question given the textual references in the koran and the preaching of many Imams. Still, this is a powerful message singling out Islam as a danger to the Swiss nation. There are disputes about the construction of large mosques in Germany, England and other countries as well.

Finally a country to say: Enough is enough!
As a German I appreciate the swiss voters decision and really hope that our so called ‘Gutmenschenfraktion’ (’league of good humans’ my free translation) would finally wake up and reckognize that their politics of integration has failed.
These people only want to enjoy what our countries have to offer e.g. work places, social security, health care. But don’t want to give anything back. They even demand receiving government support funding for building mosques and prayerrooms. I can visualize the picture of a christian approaching the e.g. turkish government with such an idea……haha
