Obama on Afghanistan- We will lose by July 2011

UPDATE: While Grim and I were watching last night this was the best laugh line.

And going forward, the Pakistan people must know America will remain a strong supporter of Pakistan’s security and prosperity long after the guns have fallen silent, so that the great potential of its people can be unleashed.

After the guns have fallen silent? Oh that is rich. These people have been shooting at each other since guns were invented, before that they were stabbing each other, before that bashing each other with rocks. After the guns have fallen silent? I’m not holding my breath.

I’m sorry, but I really tried to give this guy a chance. I made him a good luck video when he was getting inaugurated. I supported him when he announced his bold new strategy in March of this year and added 21k reinforcements. But he went and did it tonight. He proved that politics has always trumped security. He told our enemy when we were leaving.

July 2011.

Just about a year before he runs for re-election. Not nearly enough time to actually do what needs done, but a way to try and please everyone. Well Grim and I watched this debacle with a couple of dozen MSM reporters at a Journalism Fellowship put on by the Knight Center at the U of Maryland. And even among that crowd there was amazement. The Huffington Post’s scribe said she was off to write about the disappointing news, a former CNN Pentagon correspondent said it failed, and Grim had about the best take. He said “Biden’s Magic Ninjas plan was better than this”.

My thoughts, well here they are.

Obama owns it, but he’ll never perform the way this cat does.

  2. OldSoldier54 says:

Dude, this is so depressing I don’t know whether to crap, cry or go blind.

I’m trying really hard not to hate this guy for the unnecessary risk he is putting our guys on the sharp end into.

May God have mercy on them, because it sure is clear that fool in the White House won’t.

  3. Doug Wright says:

UJ: The exact date is 4 July 2011, at 1200 hours local time. What’s undecided is whether the last helicopter will lift off from the embassy or from Bagram or some other place. Will Obama even allow aircover support for our last helicopters?

Obama’s “I” speech at West Point was not worthy to coin a phrase. Maybe hereafter we don’t go outside of our borders except to run off those who storm our beaches. Perhaps we need to adopt the Swiss approach and have every swinging guy serve in the local self-defense militia and build revetments and fighting hole at local defensive strong points.

Because as long as we have Obama types in the WH foreign wars need to be non-starters, Kind of a different universe from what our fathers had but then we’ve got “Hopenchange!”

Consider this for the future: “Yep, we’re going to war to fight the bad guys but we’ll fold up in 18-months tops so hang in there until then!”

  4. Sean says:

This is an Obscenity, I cant believe we have a Vichy functionary as President. Something must be in My Moz’in.

  5. Synova says:

Hey, I know this isn’t exactly an uplifting notion and certainly helps no one at all in Afghanistan or Pakistan, but….

    November 2012.

History is brutal, but it does go on.

The difference being the butcher bill and how many of the wrong people are on it.

  6. Sanmon says:

In a couple months folks on the FOB’s are going to wake up look around and ask the question: Where did all the ANA and Terp’s go?

  7. Bobachek says:

We told all the Mooj’s over there to take a 20 month vacation and we’ll be out of your hair…That will most certainly strike fear and terror in the hearts of Muslim jerkoffs all over the region…

  8. Harry Buttle says:

As an Australian ex paratrooper, I’ve always supported our commitment to send combat troops to Afghanistan and support our allies. That just ended. It is not worth the life of a single digger to simply mark time in Afghanistan until Obama forces the US military to cut and run for his electoral advantage. We should pull our troops out now.

I’d have gladly supported increasing the size of our force if the ‘exit strategy’ was victory, but this is beyond a joke.

I want to be clear, this is not a criticism of the US military in any way, shape or form, but I simply cannot support losing Australian soldiers lives in support of an ally that has no intention of winning anything except a domestic election.

  9. dnice says:

Now our enemies know that the unofficial policy became official. So now they are going to lay low for a couple of years, have some bake sales to raise $ and support and get ready for 2012 – rite? Doesn’t make sense. I hope I am wrong.

  10. NJSoldier says:

According to my calender and frozen lawn, it’s winter! The semi-surge Obama ordered won’t get there before March and won’t do much until April.

So it’s really 14 months to kill every member of the Taliban and AQ.

  11. vet66 says:

Help me understand this. BHO who never served in the military, never held a job outside of organizing protesters in Chicago, does the John Kerry equivalent of a REMF touching down in the Senate for street creds, takes 3 months to decide he knows more than the general he appointed to the task in Afghanistan? With the (trained?) eye of someone who can, with exquisite attention to detail (sarc), divine that in the most inhospitable terrain on the earth occupied by an implacable foe bent on our death and destruction decide that 40K troops requested by McChrystal were 10K more than the situation required?

Who could have seen this train wreck coming down the track? Oh yeah, all of us who didn’t believe in ‘hopeandchange’ and actually listened to what our dreamer-in-charge current POTUS campaigned on. BHO’s speech last night reminded me of Nixon’s famous “I am not a crook” speech. BHO changed it to make certain we accepted that 3 months of dithering is actually a studied response. We are expected to accept at face value that only BHO could fathom the complexity of the situation with no experience heretofore deciding that his appointed General was off-base in his assessment by exactly 10K troops.

Worse, this sort of idiocy is contagious as evidenced by another caper, namely Tiger Woods and his magic putter.

    Pathetic!

  12. Kevin says:

This plan from a man with steel in his spine, at least according to Biden.

Smart Power at work. Had this approach been used during WWII we could have started withdrawing troops just after taking Guadalcanal and North Africa.

When greeting the Afghan locals, does “I’m just a temp” translate into their language? I’m sure that will convince them to stand up and fight with us.

  13. DefendUSA says:

    Uncle J-
I hit my basketball pole. Never drive while listening to a Pied Piper speech. I almost went postal. This is so pathetic and makes me sick for the folks who have to be there.

  14. Archeryl says:

Please pray for our troops. They need all prayers, big and small. My 22 year old son, my only child, is a Marine and heads out to 29 Palms, CA on December 30 to prepare for Afghanistan. It breaks my heart that our president is playing politics with the lives of our young soldiers. How can we win a war when the president doesn’t use the word victory and those who would fight us know we are exiting the field in 2011? And then there are the rules of engagement…. Lord, please hear our prayers.

  15. htom says:

    “Defeat with dishonor.”

  16. Chuck says:

Jimbo, this might as well have called this plan his Taliban 18 month Hardship Tour Strategy. Just hang in there, jihadis. You can go whole hog on spraying lead at our troops boarding those last outbound aircraft around month 17.

  17. LongTabSigO says:

Besides the craven act of doing this at the most captured audience possible, and hearing him say so unconvincingly that he believes in American exceptionalism, to have the unmitigated gall to preach fiscal responsibility as the reason for limited aims is beyond the pale!

  18. Dick says:

Archeryl, if you would have done a better job parenting maybe your son could have been someone higher up on the food chain than some stupid grunt.

  19. Administrator says:

    Wow Dick,

    You really are.

    Cordially,

    Uncle J

  20. NJSoldier says:

So in 18 months, Obama will do his best Monty Python King Authur impression – “Run away! Run away!”

  21. Gina says:

Because I am a glutton for punishment, and because watching our “Fearless” Leader slap the face of every man and woman serving in the Military, sell the Afghanis right down the river and turn what used to be a strong, proud nation into…well…France, evidently wasn’t bad enough for me, I watched the braintrust of Maddow, Olberman and Matthews after it was over. They were struck by the difference in tone between this travesty of a speech and the one President Bush gave at the same West Point in 2002. They also noted the muted reaction from the Cadets and the skeptical looks from the Brass in attendance. (Actually it was more like looks of disgust). They seemed puzzled by the reaction.

Well, let’s see…maybe the reaction was because in 2002, President Bush spoke of VICTORY and DEFEATING OUR ENEMIES while this President, their Commander-in-Chief (theoretically), spoke of treading water and reversing momentum. Maybe these Cadets and their Officers understood that they have been tasked with babysitting the region while the Taliban and Al-Queda spend the next 18 months fine tuning their plans for havoc. Maybe they also understand that will inevitably result in them HAVING TO GO BACK sooner or later, assuming we elect someone with balls in 2012. Not a helluva a lot to get excited about there.

Just like the Afghanis understood that their execution dates have been set for 18 months. Partner with us? Methinks they’re going to partner our troops right into the hands of their new landlords.

Just like our allies understood that this country is no longer committed to lead the fight to its end.

Just like our enemies understood that not only is Afghanistan theirs in 18 months, but they have us right where they want us.

Just like those of us with a brain realize we are well and truly screwed.

THAT’S the message delivered last night.

Now…here’s what I don’t understand…it took 3 FREAKING MONTHS to decide to cut and run? SERIOUSLY?!? And he can’t even get THAT right. Not only does he leave the troops already there twisting in the wind for another 18 months, but he’s going to send 30,000 more into harms way so they can spend 18 months dodging IED’s.

Mr. President: here’s my speech: If you’re going to cut and run, then you do it NOW. How DARE you waste the service and sacrifice of our military? How DARE you use them as political fodder? How DARE you, by your action not only give aid and comfort to the enemy but surrender to them? There’s a word for that SIR: treason.

And here’s a word for the rest of us: BOHICA.

  22. Archeryl says:

    Dick,

Interesting that you would comment on my parenting. You don’t know me. Or my husband (we’ve been married for 26 years). If we were such poor parents, please explain my son’s achievements…

Aside from the fact that he is a good and brave American, in high school, my son was an honors student. He earned a full scholarship to a major university (actually the second largest in the country), to study Electrical Engineering. After a few semesters he realized that his true calling was the military (especially interesting since we are not a military family.) Upon deciding to join the Marines, he took the entrance exam (a test to determine a Marine’s MOS) and he scored 100 percent. According to my son’s recruiting officer this rarely occurs. By scoring 100 percent my son effectively could choose to do almost anything he wanted within the military. He is now a Data Marine (not surprising since he built his first computer without any help from his parents at the age of 10). As a Data Marine he is responsible for setting up the computer systems on the battle field, while also ensuring the systems are up and running at all times. He will do this for an artillery unit.

Dick, I typically wouldn’t go into such detail regarding my son. But I have had it with ignorant people like you. How dare you put down our military, assuming that these kids have nothing else to do with their lives. They do. But they choose a higher calling. Thank goodness that they do. The safety of our nation depends on our amazing young soldiers.

  23. Barbara says:

It is surreal, what with the vulgarity of the president’s message (does he even have a clue?) together with the unmistakable awareness of its future consequences that a “dick” shows up criticizing the parenting skills of a mother sending her son off to battle. Wow. “dick” reads minds and doesn’t mind letting the rest of us know the depth of his skills at understanding human nature. Yep, you’re deep, alright, “dick.” Deep. What “dick” doesn’t know is that he gave us a window into his soulless little heart showing us the coward that he is. Sad thing is, he’ll never be wise enough to understand this, and he’ll blog along rubbing salt in other people’s wounds, all to mask what passes for a craven and boorish personality. Good to know you, dick. And, Archeryl, thanks to you and your husband and a hearty thank you to your son. God bless and protect him. I’m humbled by his service and grateful beyond measure.

  24. Archeryl says:

    Barbara,

Thank you for for your support and for your well wishes for my son. I appreciate your nice words so much.

I am still getting used to the “military mom” thing. In the short year that I have been one, I have learned of the hate that is directed towards our military. To counteract the stereotype perpetuated by folks like Dick, I proudly wear my “military mom” t-shirts every where I go. I want to put a “regular face” on the military families to educate the ignorant among us (the “dicks” of the world). Contrary to the myth perpetuated by the MSM and Hollywood, I want everyone to know that our soldiers come from good, and regular American families.

My husband and I were in New York City recently and I was amazed at the “shocked” faces of those reading my shirt with the message “Proud Mom of a US Marine.” Folks living in the left coasts just don’t get it. The educated as well as the ignorant have their freedoms because of our kids who choose to serve.

    God bless them all.

  25. UpNorth says:

Wow, “Dick”, you don’t mind if we call you pecker-head for short, do you, pecker-head? You have no clue what goes on the world, nor do you have any clue on what someone else’s parenting skills might be. But, it IS obvious that your parent’s skills were sorely lacking, pecker-head.
Meanwhile, it sounds like you’re envious of other folks’ places on the food chain? Would that be because you’re still in momma’s basement, whacking off to what you read on kos or du? Hmmm, or singing along with “mmm mmm mmm”?
Don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way down to pick up your Bridge Card.

  26. Dick says:

    Pecker-head is shorter tha Dick?

    I bet you’re an officer.

  27. FbL says:

    Wow. He’s humor-impaired, too!

  28. Thanks for translating the “Obamanese” for those who are militarily challenged.

  29. Since we are on the topic of Mr O, maybe you should all have a laugh (or cry) on me.

  30. UpNorth says:

Thanks for clarifying where you are in the food chain, pecker-head. And, I was a sergeant, I worked for a living.
Archeryl and Barbara, you don’t have to be so formal with the “dicks” of the world, just call them what they are, pecker-head.

  31. Bobachek says:

    Dick,
Maybe you could just THANK Archeryl for her sons service and move the fuck on….Her son serves selfishly for all of us and regrettably that includes you…Maybe when you graduate from your liberal college and gain a little age/wisdom you will understand WTF most people here are talking about…

  32. dick says:

Bobachek…selfishly? Perhaps you wanted to write UNSELFISHLY.

Or perhaps that’s what you really wanted to write.

Or perhaps at 1:43am you’re too drunk to know anything.

    Bobachek… another unrepentant military clown.

  33. UpNorth says:

Dick….Stating what he wants from Obama. Pecker-head.

  34. Gina says:

Dick…another unrepentant moron bashing men and women who step up and do what he lacks the balls to.

Archeryl…your son is yet another shining example of the very BEST this country has to offer. Please thank him for me and thank YOU and your husband for raising such a fine young man. You are justifiably proud as are we that he sacrifices for.
